The shelter elves will band together on August 9th to make toys for our shelter pets! This will be an exciting event for all volunteers to come together and make enrichment items and toys for the animals in our care! Volunteer Manager Chris will give instructions on how to make a braided toy out of 550 paracord for our cats and instructions on how to make rope tug-o-war toys for our dogs.
This volunteer event will also be open to younger members of your family that are interested in helping out at Halifax Humane Society. The anticipated skill level required would be an ability to tie one's shoes on their own. Please reach out to chrismcd@halifaxhumanesociety.org if you have any questions or concerns about your child's/sibling's ability to participate.
We will be stocked up on supplies and will make as many toys as we can! However, if you would like to donate additional materials to this effort, you can find some recommended items below.
Dog Supplies:
T.W. Evans Cordage #8 - 1/4 in. Royal Oak Cotton Sash Cord 100 ft. Hank 30-080 - The Home Depot
Please aim for ropes made of natural materials, such as cotton. Sisal rope can be a bit too stringy but, can also be used for cat enrichment.
Old T-Shirts (preferably 100% cotton).
Cat Supplies:
Everbilt 1/8 in. x 50 ft. Paracord Rope (1 color per each order) 72475 - The Home Depot
Please try to avoid black cord as they can be challenging to locate in a cat's kennel. All other colors should be fine!
Old T-Shirts (preferably 100% cotton) can also be used for cat toys.
